In years 1952-1953, the battery no. 1 was refurbished and the process of pushing, crushing, quenching , and sorting the coke was mechanised. An inclined wharf surface was used thanks to which the coke broke down into smaller fragments under its own weight. Then it was segregated using circular sifter and two-sieve swing sifter and was directed to the tanks using conveyor belts. The sorting plant had a processing capacity of 40 tonnes of coke per hour. The coke was loaded from 6 tanks with capacity of 40 m3 to wagons.
